The project recently gained significant political backing, with South Bend Mayor James Mueller, Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood, and all three St. Joseph County Commissioners issuing a joint public letter of support.
Mayor Mueller framed his endorsement as essential for the region's financial future, particularly in light of Senate Enrolled Act 1. This state legislation, involving property and income tax reforms, is increasing pressure on local governments to expand their tax bases. "We've got to be able to set ourselves up as a community for success," Mueller stated, emphasizing that large-scale investment is critical.
