Amazon Unveils $3 Billion AI Data Center Campus in Mississippi, Creating Thousands of Jobs

In a major expansion of its U.S. infrastructure footprint, Amazon has committed to a landmark $3 billion investment to construct a new data center campus in Warren County, Mississippi. The move underscores the intensifying race among cloud giants to build capacity for the booming artificial intelligence and cloud computing sectors, often targeting regions with favorable economic conditions and growing tech ecosystems.
The announcement, made by the company on November 20, details plans to develop a dedicated data center campus designed to power next-generation AI and cloud services. This investment is historic for the region, representing the single largest private capital infusion in Warren County's history. The project is projected to generate at least 2,000 new jobs at the Amazon campus itself, with an estimated 300 additional full-time equivalent positions supported across the local economy.
David Zapolsky, Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer, framed the investment as a deepening of the company's long-term partnership with Mississippi. “Amazon’s $3 billion investment in Warren County will create lasting opportunities for Mississippi families and communities, building on our more-than-a-decade-long partnership with the Magnolia State,” Zapolsky stated. He highlighted the company's broader community initiatives, including workforce development programs that have already trained over 6,500 Mississippians and the launch of a new $150,000 Warren County Community Fund aimed at addressing local needs like STEM education.
Local economic leaders hailed the decision as transformative. Pablo Diaz, President and CEO of the Vicksburg-Warren Partnership, called it “a defining moment for our community.” He emphasized the project's potential to deliver “enduring and transformational benefits” to local small businesses, create high-value career paths for residents, and boost municipal revenues for years to come.
The accompanying $150,000 community fund, to be managed by the nonprofit ChangeX, will extend beyond STEM to support local projects focused on sustainability, digital skills, cultural heritage, and health. The fund is open to applications from individuals, community groups, schools, and nonprofits across the county.
For the data center industry, Amazon's massive bet on Warren County signals a continued trend of hyperscale operators making multi-billion-dollar, job-creating investments in secondary markets. These projects are increasingly critical for supporting the vast computational and energy demands of AI workloads, while also serving as powerful engines for regional economic development and technological workforce growth.
