Waterville Township Considers Data Center Development to Meet AI Industry Demand

October 30, 2025

WATERVILLE TWP., Ohio – Municipal leaders across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan are actively evaluating land use plans to attract data centers, aiming to capitalize on the burgeoning demand from the Artificial Intelligence industry.

In a significant step, Waterville Township trustees relocated their monthly meeting on Wednesday to a larger venue to accommodate an anticipated crowd for discussions on land use proposals related to these potential facilities.

“This is a hot topic; it fundamentally could change our township forever,” Trustee Julie Theroux stated. “So it is something that people should come out here and express their opinions on how they want their township to look.”

Theroux emphasized that while community input is a critical part of the planning process, once a land use plan is formally adopted, the township will be obligated to adhere to its guidelines. The move signals the serious consideration being given to transforming local infrastructure to align with the high-tech sector's needs.
