Equinix Invests $250 Million in New Monterrey Data Center, Bolstering Mexican Digital Infrastructure

October 29, 2025

Global digital infrastructure company Equinix, Inc. has officially inaugurated its new MO2 International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in Monterrey, Mexico, marking a significant expansion of its footprint in the Latin American market.

The facility, representing a $250 million investment, is located in the Nexxus Aeropuerto Industrial Park in Apodaca, Nuevo León. The MO2 data center provides more than 30,000 square feet (approximately 2,785 square meters) of colocation space. This launch establishes MO2 as Equinix's second facility in the state of Monterrey, complementing two existing data centers in Querétaro and reinforcing the company's strategic commitment to the region.

According to the company, the first phase of the MO2 data center commenced operations in September 2025. The development is planned to continue in phased expansions, with construction projected through to 2030.

Company executives highlighted the strategic importance of the new center. "Since our arrival in Mexico in 2020, we have focused on strengthening and modernizing the region's digital ecosystem," said Amet Novillo Suarez, Equinix's Managing Director for Mexico. "The MO2 is Equinix's answer to the growing demand for connectivity, security, and efficient data management, consolidating our leadership in interconnection and colocation services."

Equinix initially entered the Mexican market in 2020 through the acquisition of three data centers from Mexican telecommunications provider Axtel. The plans for the MO2 facility were approved in August 2023, with an original launch target of the first quarter of 2025.

The launch also enhances connectivity options for local businesses. Eduardo Carvalho, Managing Director of Equinix Latin America, added, "With the launch of MO2 and the recent availability of Equinix Fabric in Monterrey, local customers now have the opportunity to leverage secure and direct connectivity to major hubs like Mexico City, Dallas, and numerous other global metros. This positions Monterrey as an exciting and dynamic hub for innovation and business expansion."

The expansion is expected to support the creation of more than 500 jobs, further solidifying Equinix's role as a key player in the development of Mexico's digital economy.
