In a significant move to bolster Thailand's digital economy, Microsoft has announced a strategic partnership with Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group and its subsidiary True IDC to establish a new cloud region in the country. The collaboration, formalized on October 29, 2025, aims to accelerate cloud and AI adoption across the public and private sectors.
Under the agreement, True Internet Data Center (True IDC) will serve as a core data center provider for Microsoft's upcoming cloud infrastructure. This partnership is designed to deliver low-latency, high-reliability cloud services to customers in Thailand while ensuring compliance with local data residency requirements.
The initiative is a direct implementation of Microsoft’s broader commitment to the region, following its initial announcement of a Thailand cloud region in May 2024 and a prior pledge to invest $2.85 billion in the country's digital infrastructure.
"At Microsoft, we believe AI and Cloud are powerful technologies that unlock immense potential to transform economies and societies," said Mayank Wadhwa, President of Microsoft ASEAN. "By delivering trusted cloud platforms, deep cybersecurity expertise, and responsible AI practices, we are committed to empowering Thailand’s digital journey."
Sigve Brekke, Executive Chair of the telecommunications and digital business group of CP Group and Group CEO of True Corporation Plc., outlined the alliance's three key objectives. "Our collaboration focuses on driving Cloud & AI Transformation to elevate the nation’s technological capabilities; co-developing joint go-to-market strategies to expand adoption; and strengthening Digital Infrastructure through True IDC’s data centers, which support Microsoft’s cloud datacenter in Thailand," Brekke stated.
True IDC, which operates facilities in Thailand, Myanmar, and Vietnam, brings a scalable data center to the partnership, capable of supporting up to 60MW of power and housing high-density computing infrastructure essential for modern AI workloads. The company's capabilities were further validated earlier this year when Global Infrastructure Partners revealed plans to invest over $1 billion in True IDC.
This new cloud region is expected to provide a significant boost to Thailand's ambitions of becoming a digital hub in Southeast Asia, offering local businesses and organizations enhanced access to Microsoft's Azure cloud services.
