CleanSpark, Inc. (Nasdaq: CLSK), a leading U.S. data center developer, announced today a strategic collaboration with Submer, a global pioneer in sustainable AI data center infrastructure. The partnership aims to leverage their combined expertise to develop and deploy large-scale, liquid-cooled data centers tailored for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing applications across North America.
The non-binding framework unites CleanSpark's extensive portfolio of U.S. power and land assets with Submer's established global capabilities in advanced liquid-cooling and modular data center construction. The collaboration is structured to create an integrated infrastructure platform that combines power generation, data center development, and AI-service delivery. CleanSpark will focus on site selection, development, and operations, while Submer will provide its proprietary technology for sustainable, high-density data center systems.
The companies are currently evaluating a portfolio of over 1 gigawatt (GW) of power capacity, with a development pipeline exceeding 2 GW.
Matt Schultz, CleanSpark’s Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, emphasized the strategic fit, stating, "Submer has established itself as one of the most advanced and forward-thinking AI infrastructure firms. By combining our energy and land portfolio with Submer's state-of-the-art AI deployment and liquid cooling expertise, we are positioned to deliver AI capacity at gigawatt scale, faster, cleaner, and more efficiently than traditional approaches."
Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Barcelona, Submer brings specialized expertise in end-to-end liquid-cooled and prefabricated data center solutions, which are critical for managing the intense heat generated by AI computing clusters.
Patrick Smets, Chief Executive Officer of Submer, commented on the collaboration's potential, saying, "CleanSpark's unmatched expertise in site development and large-scale infrastructure delivery, combined with Submer's ability to design and deploy high-density AI environments rapidly, creates a new blueprint for sustainable, high-performance AI compute at scale. Together, we're building the industrial foundation for the Age of Intelligence."
The move represents a significant expansion for CleanSpark, building upon its vertically integrated model and proven track record in rapid site development to capitalize on the surging global demand for AI-driven digital infrastructure.
Jeffrey Thomas, CleanSpark's Senior Vice President of AI Data Centers, noted that working with established technical partners is critical for success. "Submer already has received approvals for its designs for leading reference architectures. Working with Submer accelerates our capability and ability to scale at pace, and we look to conclude definitive agreements in the coming weeks," Thomas said.
Both companies acknowledged the fast-moving nature of the sector and have agreed to collaborate under the current framework to evaluate opportunities for a definitive agreement.
