Amazon Files Plans for Major UK Data Center Campus Near London

October 28,2025

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has submitted a formal planning application to develop a new data center campus in Iver, Buckinghamshire, as part of its multi-billion-pound investment in UK digital infrastructure.

According to documents filed with Buckinghamshire Council, Amazon Data Services UK Ltd. is seeking permission to redevelop the existing Ridgeway Distribution Centre. The proposal involves the demolition of all current structures on the site to make way for a 30,525 square meter (328,560 square foot) data center campus.

The planned development will consist of a single two-story data center building, accompanied by an MV building, a substation compound with two switchrooms, and a generator yard housing 27 backup generators. The facility is designed to utilize direct evaporative cooling, leveraging outside air for the majority of the year. For periods of higher temperatures, an adiabatic cooling system will be employed, using rainwater as a primary supply with mains water as a backup.

The Ridgeway Trading Estate, currently comprising 17 industrial and logistics units, was acquired by Amazon Data Services from investment firm Abrdn in a 2022 off-market deal valued at £132.5 million ($165.6 million).

This project is positioned as a component of Amazon's previously announced £8 billion ($10.47 billion) investment in constructing, operating, and maintaining UK data centers between 2024 and 2028.

The location in Iver places the new campus within a key data center corridor east of Slough, a well-established hub for digital infrastructure in the greater London area. The town has also attracted development plans from other operators, including CyrusOne and Greystoke.

AWS currently operates one UK cloud region, which is physically located in the Bristol area but branded as the 'London' region. The company has been linked to several other potential data center projects across the UK, including sites in Bedfordshire, Middlesex, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, and Berkshire.
