Major Data Center Campus Planned for Vast 180-Hectare Site in Western Finland

October 28, 2025

A significant data center development is planned for a 180-hectare (445-acre) plot in the municipality of Isojoki, Finland, following a land sale agreement by the local government.

According to local press reports, including national broadcaster Yle, the Isojoki municipal government has agreed to sell the large tract of land, located near the Pettenkangas industrial area, for approximately €10 million ($11.6 million). The project is being led by a firm known as Isojoki Data Center Oy, which is reportedly backed by a Nordic real estate development company.

While specific details regarding the project's capacity, investment value, or potential clients remain scarce, reports indicate that construction could commence as early as September 2026.

The proposed development continues a trend of large-scale data center projects expanding beyond Finland's capital region. Isojoki is located in the South Ostrobothnia region on the country's western coast. The Pettenkangas industrial area itself is also slated to host a bioterminal supporting energy wood harvesting and wood chip entrepreneurship.

This project aligns with a broader wave of data center investment sweeping Finland. While established operators like Verne, Equinix, and atNorth have a presence in the country, numerous new entrants are planning multi-gigawatt developments. These include Scale42, Polarnode, FCDC, Arcem, and Hyperco, alongside international players such as QTS and DayOne.

In a related development earlier this month, the Forssa City Council approved zoning plans that would enable QTS to develop a massive 150-hectare campus outside Forssa, with a potential footprint of 700,000 square meters (7.53 million square feet). Concurrently, Hyperco, which is building a campus in Kouvola set to serve TikTok owner ByteDance, has submitted an environmental impact assessment program for its 100MW initial phase project.
