Submer Establishes Regional Hub to Pioneer Sustainable, AI-Ready Datacenters in the Middle East

October 22, 2025

Submer, a global leader in sustainable datacenter infrastructure, has announced a significant expansion of its operations in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, anchored by the establishment of its subsidiary in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This strategic move is designed to position the company as a key partner for building next-generation, liquid-cooled AI datacenters, accelerating the region's digital transformation.

The regional expansion will be spearheaded by Khalid Aljamed, who will lead Submer MEA as a design-build and sustainability partner. The initiative focuses on blending business development with local ecosystem growth, forging strategic partnerships, and ensuring operational excellence. This milestone reinforces Submer's commitment to supporting major regional transformation agendas, including Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and the UAE's Vision 2031.

The expansion comes at a time of unprecedented growth in the Middle Eastern datacenter market. Industry projections indicate that regional capacity is set to triple from 1 gigawatt (GW) in 2025 to 3.3 GW over the next five years. Specifically, Saudi Arabia's datacenter market, valued at USD 1.33 billion in 2024, is expected to reach USD 3.90 billion by 2030, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.64%. Similarly, the UAE's market is forecast to grow from USD 1.26 billion in 2024 to USD 3.33 billion by 2030, at a CAGR of 17.64%.

"The Middle East and the wider MEA region are redefining the future of digital infrastructure," said Patrick Smets, CEO of Submer.

"Establishing a strong local presence with our regional headquarters in Saudi Arabia and planned field offices in the UAE and North Africa allows us to bring Submer’s expertise in sustainable, liquid-cooled AI datacenters directly to a region that is leading global innovation. This is a decisive step in our mission to make the world’s digital growth efficient and sustainable."

Khalid Aljamed, General Manager for the Middle East, Turkey & Africa at Submer, added, "The MEA region is moving with extraordinary speed to build AI-ready, sovereign, and sustainable digital ecosystems. Our focus is on collaborating with hyperscalers, telecoms, and government-backed digital programs. With Submer’s strong presence on the ground, we’re delivering infrastructure that is not only faster and smarter, but also scalable and more resilient."

Submer's local presence in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the UAE is intended to create a platform for lighthouse projects that demonstrate measurable outcomes in efficiency, sustainability, and total cost of ownership. These projects will serve as blueprints for AI-ready, liquid-cooled datacenters, setting global benchmarks for performance while enabling widespread regional adoption. The long-term goal is to establish Submer MEA as a nucleus for research and development, integration, and customer experience.

Through this strategic expansion, Submer aims to foster an ecosystem of partners and talent to drive repeatable, scalable deployments across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the wider MEA region, establishing sustainable datacenters as the foundational pillar of an AI-driven future.
