Eos Energy Enterprises, a leading manufacturer of American-made zinc-based battery energy storage systems, is making a multimillion-dollar move to Pittsburgh’s North Shore. The announcement was made today by Gov. Josh Shapiro and Eos leadership, revealing a $352.9 million investment to relocate the company's headquarters from New Jersey to a 40,000-square-foot office space at Nova Place by the end of 2026.
This strategic move follows closely on the heels of Eos signing an initial pact with a large-scale data center developer and working on several additional agreements to power these facilities. The company's role has since been confirmed to include powering the large-scale data center project proposed in Greene County, Pennsylvania. “After our comments today, you’re also going to see the next step in Eos development,” Shapiro said at the public announcement. “They’re going to begin working closely with top energy producers, like Talen Energy, to use their products to help power some of the data centers that are being built across the commonwealth.”
The commonwealth and Eos have been working on this deal for over two years, Shapiro noted, describing it as one of the first projects that came across his desk after he took office. The company is now considered key to Pennsylvania’s energy strategy. “The demand for energy is going up — and my administration is capitalizing on Pennsylvania’s strengths as a national energy leader and net energy exporter to attract leading energy manufacturers like Eos Energy to the commonwealth,” Shapiro said in a press release.
Substantial public investment is supporting the relocation. The commonwealth is awarding $22 million to the project, which is expected to create 735 new jobs and retain 265 current positions. These funds are flowing from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. Allegheny County has also pledged an additional $2 million to support the expansion.
Beyond the headquarters shift, Eos plans a significant manufacturing expansion. The company, which currently operates two manufacturing facilities in Turtle Creek, intends to expand into a 432,000-square-foot facility in northern Allegheny County’s Marshall Township. The establishment of additional production lines is projected to create and retain a total of 1,000 jobs.
“With this expansion, Eos is strengthening two of the key industries at the center of our Economic Development Strategy — energy and manufacturing,” said DCED Secretary Rick Siger. Echoing this sentiment, Stefani Pashman, CEO of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, stated, “Eos’ move will not only strengthen our region’s position as a hub for advanced energy storage, but it will also attract new suppliers, partners and innovators to the Pittsburgh region.”
