Company's seventh facility in Japanese capital
APAC data center operator Digital Edge has launched its latest data center in Tokyo, Japan.
The Stonepeak-backed company and local real estate firm Hulic Co., Ltd., this week announced the launch of TYO7.
Located at 7-1 Nihonbashi Kobunacho, less than 300 meters (984 ft) from the company’s existing TYO2 facility, the eight-story TYO7 offers 4.8MW across 2,625 sqm (28,255 sq ft) with capacity for 970 racks.
"Tokyo is one of the most dynamic digital markets in Asia, where proximity and connectivity matter more than ever," said John Freeman, CEO of Digital Edge. "With TYO7, we are delivering a network-dense, sustainable, high-performance facility, giving our customers the low-latency access they need to support cloud, AI, and digital transformation - all in the heart of Tokyo's central business district."
Plans for the new data center were announced by the Singapore-based company in March 2023. The companies broke ground on the project in June 2023. Hulic had previously announced plans for Hulic to demolish a building in Nihonbashi and develop an eight-story data center in its place.
Takaya Maeda, representative director, president of Hulic, added: "Hulic is focused on central Tokyo, and our priority is to develop real estate that meets today's evolving needs. By partnering with Digital Edge, we are very pleased to have realized our first urban data center. This facility not only addresses Japan's growing digital infrastructure requirements but also sets a new standard for environmentally responsible development. Starting with this facility, we will continue to accelerate our efforts in urban data center development projects."
New York-based private equity firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners formed Digital Edge in August 2020. The company has around 25 data centers in operation and under construction, and more than 1.1GW of secured IT power across Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines
