Argentine supermarket chain Coto inaugurates modular data center

New facility designed and built by a company specialized in the construction of modular data centers

The Coto supermarket chain has opened the doors of the first data center with triple international certification in design, construction, and operation in Argentina, as reported by the engineering firm DCE in a statement on social networks.

The "Alfredo Coto Datacenter" (ACDC), named after the entrepreneurial founder of the hypermarkets, was built in 200 days by DCE using modular and prefabricated construction.

"We designed the solution from scratch, controlled each stage, and delivered a ready-to-operate infrastructure in record time," commented Federico Garcia Garzarella, project manager at DCE.

The ACDC has 40 racks and 200kVa of redundant UPS and generation power. In addition, it is also equipped with 16 precision air conditioners.

DCE ensured that the ACDC is the first data center in Argentina to obtain the international certifications ANSI/TIA942-C in design, ANSI/TIA942-C in construction, and DCOS in operations.

The ACDC has been designed as a "mission-critical center" to support Coto's strategic trading, logistics, financial infrastructure, and data processing operations.

"Each module was designed to ensure energy efficiency, thermal insulation, operational continuity, and simplicity of maintenance," added Kevin Cristo, operations manager at DCE.

The project involved an investment of more than US$6.5 million and is part of a modernization strategy for the company, as reported by Infobae.

"The [ACDC] not only strengthens our technological infrastructure, but also provides us with agility, scalability, and resilience to accompany the company's growth and offer the best experience to customers and collaborators," commented Coto's technology and digital channels department, according to Infobae.

Buenos Aires-based Coto is an Argentine supermarket chain founded by Alfredo Coto in 1970 as a butcher shop. The chain currently has 120 supermarkets, most of them in Greater Buenos Aires.
