Bitfarms partners with T5 to develop data center in Pennsylvania

Cryptofirm partners with veteran data center developer

Bitfarms, a cryptomining company pivoting to AI and HPC data centers, has tapped T5 to help it develop a campus in Pennsylvania.

The company this week announced its partnership with T5 Data Centers to “advance HPC/AI development” at its Panther Creek campus in the state.

The partnership will focus on pre-construction, design, planning, and development approval processes, with T5 providing guidance and coordination throughout the planning phase.

Bitfarms' CEO, Ben Gagnon, said: “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with T5 Data Centers. With the seven major US hyperscalers as their customers, T5 brings unparalleled industry expertise and is a proven leader in data center construction, development, and operations. We are excited to leverage T5’s expertise to capitalize on this opportunity, driving development and delivering long-term value for our shareholders.”

He continued: “This collaboration validates the significant HPC/AI opportunity at our flagship Panther Creek campus in Pennsylvania, where strong political tailwinds following the recent White House commitment to $90 billion of AI investments intersect our 1GW pipeline in Pennsylvania, positioning Bitfarms at the forefront of the rapidly growing AI infrastructure market in the state."

Launched in 2017, Bitfarms currently has 15 Bitcoin mining data centers operating across the United States, Canada, Paraguay, and Argentina. It recently sold a site in Paraguay to HIVE Digital.

Panther Creek is one of the two sites that Bitfarms recently acquired amid its takeover of Stronghold Digital, along with the Scrubgrass site. The two sites, located next to coal plants, have the potential for nearly 1GW of energy for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence workloads. In April, the company secured a $100m loan from Macquarie Equipment Capital to help fund the development of Panther Creek.

Tom Mertz, president and COO of T5 Services, added: “We’re excited to be selected as a strategic construction partner for Bitfarms as they expand into HPC/AI data center development. Their Panther Creek, Pennsylvania, property is well-positioned for building an advanced AI data center campus, and we look forward to supporting this next phase of their growth."

Founded in 2008, T5 develops build-to-suit data centers across the US. It has a presence across Chicago, Illinois; Atlanta, Georgia; Los Angeles, California; Hillsboro, Oregon; Dallas, Texas; Charlotte, North Carolina; and beyond. The company recently announced plans to develop multiple gigawatt-scale campuses, starting with a site outside Chicago, Illinois.
