Bharti Airtel's Xtelify launches sovereign cloud in India

Airtel Cloud offers IaaS and PaaS solutions

Xtelify, a fully owned subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, has launched a sovereign cloud platform in India.

Dubbed Airtel Cloud, the offering is described as a "telco-grade" cloud platform and is hosted in "next-gen sustainable" data centers.

Via Airtel Cloud, Xtelify is offering Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS).

Gopal Vittal, vice chairman and MD at Bharti Airtel, said: “It is a very pivotal moment in our history as we take our world-class, home-grown platforms of Airtel Cloud and software solutions to businesses in India and telcos all over the world."

Vittal noted that the new platform has already signed on three major customers: Singtel, Globe Telecom, and Airtel Africa.

Ng Tian Chong, CEO of Singtel Singapore, said: “We are always looking for ways to better equip our field engineers so we can deliver the best possible experiences to our customers. This platform enables us to reimagine our workflows with AI at the core, improving both efficiency and customer service.

"By optimizing dispatch and resource management, our engineers can reach customers more quickly, resolve issues with greater accuracy, and reduce our overall carbon footprint. We’re also able to enhance productivity, strengthen governance, and ultimately deliver more value to our customers."

Xtelify has not stated which data centers Airtel Cloud is hosted in, though they are likely Nxtra facilities - another Bharti Airtel subsidiary.

Nxtra has a 21MW hyperscale data center in Pune, and upcoming hyperscale data centers listed on its website in Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata, Noida, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, as well as operating "core" data centers in Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Noida, Manesar, and Bhubaneshwar. It also has more than 120 "Edge sites" in India with a total IT capacity of 50MW.

In 2023, Airtel launched its Nxtra business in Africa.

In January 2025, another Bharti Airtel subsidiary - Airtel Business - revealed it was developing a sovereign AI cloud offering with Google that would be tailored for government organizations.
