Cboe EDGA Equities Exchange migrates secondary data center to Equinix facility in Illinois

First of eight migrations planned by the exchange

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (Cboe EDGA) Equities Exchange is migrating its secondary data center equipment to the Equinix CH3 data center in the Elk Grove area of Chicago, Illinois.

As announced by the exchange, this will be the first of eight secondary data centers planned to move into the CH3 facility this year.

In a post from the company, Cboe notes that “Client connections will not move as a part of the migration and will remain in place in CH1,” suggesting that at least this data center is moving from another Equinix facility located in Chicago.

No reason has been provided for the move, though the exchanges’ intention to migrate several data centers into CH3 suggests an effort to consolidate its secondary IT infrastructure.

DCD has reached out to the exchange for more information.

CH3 is located on the outskirts of Chicago, whereas CH1 is in the center of the city.

The exchange’s primary data center is reportedly an Equinix facility in Secaucus, New Jersey. A number of stock and other exchanges are hosted here.

In August 2024, Cboe sold its former HQ in Chicago to real estate firm Prime Group to be turned into a data center. At the time, the exchange said that it hadn’t needed the site since moving its headquarters to the Old Post Office in 2020 and shifting its open-outcry trading floor to the Chicago Board of Trade Building in 2022.
