Arjun Infrastructure buys stake in Data4 stabilized data center portfolio

Investment firm takes stake in facilities across three countries totaling 244MW.

European data center firm Data4 has sold a stake in its stabilized data centers to an investment firm.

The Brookfield-owned company this week announced Arjun Infrastructure Partners has acquired a stake in a stabilised data center portfolio (aka StableCo) operated by Data4 and featuring facilities in France, Spain, and Italy.

Terms of the deal weren’t shared, but Arjun secured a 30 percent stake in the StableCo portfolio, which comprises Data4 facilities in Paris, Madrid, and Milan with a combined capacity of 244MW. Data4 will continue to manage the portfolio.

Supported by Arjun’s latest fund and co-investors, this transaction marks Arjun’s inaugural investment in the data center sector. Other investors in StableCo include existing owner Brookfield, which acquired Data4 in 2023.

Rohini Pahwa, partner at Arjun Infrastructure Partners, said: “Data4’s StableCo portfolio exemplifies market-leading, essential infrastructure backed by strong management. We are excited to enter the data center sector with this transaction, having monitored the space for several years.”

Established in 2006 by Colony Capital (now DigitalBridge) and owned by Brookfield since April 2023, Data4 currently operates more than 30 data centers in France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Germany, and Greece, totaling around 1.5GW. The company previously operated a site in Luxembourg but has since exited.

Olivier Micheli, CEO of Data4, added: “We are pleased to broaden our investor base with the addition of Arjun as a new shareholder. This strategic investment reflects strong confidence in Data4’s fundamentals and serves as a clear validation of its international expansion and digital campus development model. Backed by this partnership, Data4 is well-positioned to accelerate its growth trajectory and further consolidate its leadership in the European data center market."

Reports that Brookfield was looking to sell a stake in Data4 first emerged last August, with Arjun named as an interested party in March. At the time, Bloomberg said the deal valued the portfolio at around €3.7 billion ($3.9bn).

Arjun Infrastructure Partners is an infrastructure fund manager founded in 2015, with more than €6.4 billion ($7.2bn) of assets under management. The firm is focused on European core and core-plus mid-market infrastructure.
