Tanzania’s communications minister opens Kilimanjaro Telecom data center in Uganda

New facility to be a “key link” providing services to Uganda and neighbors

Kilimanjaro Telecom has launched a new data center in Uganda.

The state-owned Tanzania Telecommunication Corporation (TTCL) this week announced that Tanzania’s Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jerry William Silaa, has officially opened the Kilimanjaro Telecom facility in Uganda while on a state visit.

Kilimanjaro Telecom is a carrier-neutral wholesale Internet and fiber infrastructure provider based in Kampala, Uganda.

Details on the size of the data center weren’t shared.

The new facility is expected to be a “key link” in providing communication services to Uganda as well as neighboring countries, partly utilizing the National Telecommunications Backbone managed by TTCL.

“Reliable communication and regional cooperation are key pillars in achieving digital development. This center is a great example of the success we can achieve by working together as an East African community,” said Silaa.
