No critical equipment damaged
A crane accident at Meta's planned South Carolina data center has caused no injuries.
As reported by WRDW, the boom of a crane, which refers to the retractable ‘arm’ used to move objects around, fell to the ground and crushed the end of a white pickup truck.
The incident, which occurred on July 18, took place at the construction site of Meta’s $800m, 715,000 sq ft (66,425 sqm) data center campus in Sage Mill Industrial Park, located in Aiken County, South Carolina. Renderings suggest that at least two buildings are planned.
DPR Construction is the contractor for the project.
Meta said in a statement: “We’re actively investigating the cause and can share more information once we have confirmed details. The safety of everyone on site remains our top priority.”
The South Carolina site is Meta's 22nd data center in the US and its 26th in the world, as announced by the company onFacebook.
Though not a huge data center market, the likes of Google, QTS, Dart Points, and DC Blox are present in South Carolina.
