Company to buy land from unnamed Sydney developer
Australian technology firm Macquarie Technology Group is set to buy more land in Sydney for a new data center.
The company, which provides cloud, data center, and IT services, this week announced its Macquarie Data Centres Group unit has entered into a put and call option with a “large, long established property investment and development company based in Sydney” to purchase a large parcel of land for a new data center campus in the city.
Precise details of the site weren’t shared, but Macquarie aims to construct a new 150MW data center campus designed for hyperscale customers, Al, cloud, and government workloads.
The AU$240 million (US$157m) purchase price is intended to be funded through existing cash reserves and the group's corporate debt facility.
The company said development of the campus is expected to happen over the next few years, pending approvals. In this period, Macquarie said it will consider a range of funding alternatives, including project finance and securing new, longer-term infrastructure investors.
Macquarie DC owns and operates two campuses in Sydney: one in the city’s central business district (IC1), and the Macquarie Park Data Center Campus, which is currently home to IC2 and IC3. The company also has two bunker data centers in Canberra.
