46MW data center planned south of Wrocław, Poland

New entrant 1911 Data Centres plans facility in Wałbrzych.

A 46MW data center is planned for south-west Poland.

Announced this week, 1911 Data Centres aims to invest a total of PLN 2 billion ($552m) in a 46MW modular data center in Wałbrzych. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025.

The initial 16MW phase, comprising an investment of PLN 700 million ($193.4m), is expected to be launched in Q1 2027.

For 1911’s first project, the company said it has backing from “private institutional capital.”

The Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone (WSSE), Invest-Park, is supporting the project, which said the development is receiving state aid under the Polska Strategia Inwestycji (Polish Investment Zone) program.

“The support of Invest-Park is proof of the strategic value of Wałbrzych. This initiative accelerates our mission to create a highly resilient, secure data center supporting public and private digital transformation throughout Poland. - Rahim Nanji, co-founder of 1911 Data Centres.

Nanji has previously held roles at several financial firms, including London Capital Group, IG, and First Sentinel. He also lists himself as CEO of KQN Capital Limited.

Located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship (administrative area) in southwestern Poland, Wałbrzych lies approximately 70 kilometres (43.4 miles) southwest of Wrocław and close to the border with Czechia (Czech Republic).

“The construction of the Wałbrzych data center shows that Poland, including smaller districts, is increasingly an attractive location for global digital players thanks to public support programs, excellent locations, and a qualified workforce,” said Krzysztof Hołub, VP of Invest-Park.

The region around Wrocław has a small data center market, with a handful of local players present. Capital city, Warsaw, is the country’s main hub, followed by Katowice, Poznan, and Kraków.

The deputy Mayor of the city of Wałbrzych, Kacper Nogajczyk, said: “The largest investment of this type in the region, as well as one of the largest in Poland, will soon be built in Wałbrzych. The construction of the Wałbrzych data center is also a response to the increasingly frequent threats to digital security in the public space, which require even better data protection and guarantees of their safe storage.”
