Also in India, foundation stone laid for data center and a potential CLS to be built in Gujarat
India's NES Data now offers Edge and modular data centers.
Elsewhere in India, construction has commenced at an ESDS data center, and plans for a new cable landing station are in discussion.
NES, which stands for Natural Environment Solutions, is headquartered in Pune, a city in the western coastal state of Maharashtra.
Founder and managing director Umesh Sahay said: “We believe Edge and containerized data centers are set to democratize data access, enabling low-latency, high-efficiency solutions for India’s AI-first digital ecosystem, particularly in Tier II and remote towns and cities.”
Sahay is also the managing director of EFC, a non-residential real estate firm also headquartered in Pune.
In 2024, the company said that it intended to expand its data center capacity to over 100MW in the next three years. It currently operates a 5MW facility in Pune.
Foundation stone laid for data center near New Delhi
A foundation stone has been laid for a data center near New Delhi.
Situated in Ghaziabad, which is directly northeast of India’s capital city, the facility will offer 30MW of capacity at completion. It will be operated by ESDS, and power will be provided by Central Electronics Limited, a state-owned enterprise that specializes in solar energy.
Development timelines were not made available.
ESDS currently operates 60,000 sq ft (5,576 sqm) of data centers split across four facilities: one in the northwestern state of Punjab, two in the western state of Rajasthan, and one in Maharashtra, which contains Mumbai.
Cable landing station could be built in eastern Indian state of Gujarat
A cable landing station (CLS) could be built in Gujarat, an eastern Indian state.
As reported by The Hindu, the local government is in talks with Reliance Industries, an Indian conglomerate, and three other potential operators to set up one or multiple CLSs in the state.
Principal secretary of the Government of Gujarat’s Science and Technology department Mona Khandhar told The Hindu that “two of these proposals are for setting up CLSs in Saurashtra region,” which is the term used to describe the peninsular region of Gujarat. The other proposals are for the South Gujarat region.
The majority of India’s CLSs are located in Mumbai, which is south of Gujarat. In 2022, the Government of Gujarat signed an MoU with Singapore-based networking firm Lightstorm to develop a CLS, but the progress of the project is uncertain. If completed, this would be Gujarat’s first CLS.
