Jason Kwon heads to Japan, South Korea, Australia, India, and Singapore.
OpenAI’s chief strategy officer is traveling around Asia Pacific talking to governments and investors about building Stargate data center megaprojects.
The Hindustan Times reports that OpenAI’s chief strategy officer Jason Kwon is currently in Delhi, India, as part of the broader tour.
“In the brief time that I have spent in India, it is clear that the country’s leadership understands that maximizing AI’s benefits requires significant investments in two areas: Core infrastructure and cultivating AI talent," Kwon said at an event in the city.
"By leading in these areas and empowering people to harness frontier intelligence, India can accelerate economic growth."
Kwon is also visiting Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Singapore to discuss the ‘OpenAI for Countries’ program.
The initiative was announced last month as a plan to build up to ten Stargate data center projects across the world, as it continues to develop its $500 billion US joint venture.
The generative AI company expects partner countries to invest in their projects, alongside investments in a national start-up fund.
The first such Stargate was announced in the UAE, backed by local developer G42, which has ties to the nation's ruling family. That project is expected to grow to 1GW.
In Europe, OpenAI is reportedly in discussions with the UK, France, and Germany.
