Brazilian army opens data center in São Paulo

Will support R&D and cyber defense activities

The Brazilian army has opened a data center in São Paulo.

Data Center Marechal Rondon was opened on May 29. Located at the 3rd Area Telematics Center in São Paulo, it is named after Candido Rondon, a Brazilian military officer. Details about capacity and size of the data center have not been disclosed.

The data center will be used for intelligence activities, cyber defense, strategic planning, and R&D.

It will also provide digital support to the Coronel Ricardo Franco Data Center, another facility operated by the army. It is located in Brasilia, Brazil’s capital.

Army General Tomas Miguel Mine Ribeiro Paiva also claimed that the facility would be able to operate in extreme conditions, including natural disasters.

Most data centers in Brazil are located in São Paulo, the financial center of the country. A variety of players have recently come into the Brazilian market, including ByteDance, Roblox, and Equinix.
