LS Eco Energy to Supply Power Network for Viettel’s Hyperscale AI Data Center in Vietnam
LS Eco Energy has announced that it will supply the power network for a hyperscale artificial intelligence data center being built by Viettel Group, Vietnam’s largest telecommunications company. The project is one of the largest AI infrastructure initiatives in northern Vietnam and marks a significant step in the country’s push to become a regional data center hub.
The company’s Haiphong manufacturing subsidiary, LS-VINA, will provide power cables for the facility, which is being constructed in a new city near Hanoi with a total capacity of 60 megawatts. This capacity is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 40,000 to 50,000 households simultaneously and is designed to support the surging demand for generative AI and cloud services in the region. The supplied products will be used in the power grid connecting the data center to the substation, a critical component given that AI data centers operate high-density servers based on graphics processing units, leading to substantial increases in power consumption and heat generation. Stable power supply and high-reliability distribution infrastructure are considered key competitive advantages in this sector.
This is not LS Eco Energy’s first foray into large-scale AI infrastructure. The company has previously supplied bus ducts and transmission cables for hyperscale AI data centers being built by global big tech firms in Indonesia and Malaysia. By participating in this Vietnam project, LS Eco Energy has further strengthened its influence across the Southeast Asian AI data center market. Industry analysts note that investment demand in the region is shifting from Singapore to countries like Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam due to power and land constraints in the city-state. With the rapid increase in power demand driven by the spread of generative AI, Vietnam is now actively entering the competition to become a leading AI data center hub.
Lee Sangho, CEO of LS Eco Energy, stated: “The AI data center market is expanding from server competition to competition in power and telecommunications infrastructure. We will further strengthen our efforts to target the global AI infrastructure market, focusing on ultra-high voltage cables and power and optical communication solutions for data centers.” As the leading wire and cable company in ASEAN, LS Eco Energy anticipates additional business opportunities in line with Viettel’s expanding AI and telecommunications infrastructure investments across Southeast Asia. The company also plans to enhance its optical cable production capabilities to complement its existing power solutions in response to rising AI data center demand.
