Prime Files Plans for Two Data Centers Near Austin, Texas, with $400M Investment
Prime DC has filed regulatory plans to develop two data centers in Lockhart, Texas, marking a significant expansion of its footprint in the fast-growing corridor between Austin and San Antonio. The move underscores the increasing demand for data center capacity in secondary markets across the southern United States.
The company submitted filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for two buildings, designated AUS01 and AUS02, located at 1395 Bob White Road in Lockhart, Caldwell County. Each facility will span 380,000 square feet (35,303 square meters), bringing the total project to 760,000 square feet. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with completion targeted for September 2027.
Prime plans to invest approximately $400 million in the development, though the company has not yet formally announced the project. The filings come as Lockhart, a city situated roughly 30 miles south of Austin, attracts growing interest from data center developers. Edged and PowerHouse are also exploring campus developments in Caldwell County.
Reports linking Prime to a potential development in the area first emerged in early 2024, when the company was associated with a 206-acre project known as Project Snow. The latest filing confirms the company’s commitment to establishing a presence in the region.
Prime currently holds 7 GW of operational and planned capacity across the United States and Europe, with sites in Chicago, Phoenix, Austin, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, Frankfurt, Berlin, Helsinki, Esbjerg, and Madrid. The company’s investors include Macquarie Capital, Ares Management, Siemens Financial Services, Snowhawk, Nuveen, and Grain.
