The Second Phase Project of Tibet's Largest Cloud Computing Data Center Officially Started

On 24th October, the second-phase project of the world's highest altitude and largest cloud computing data center in Tibet, which was invested by Tibet Ningsuan Technology Group, held a groundbreaking ceremony in Lhasa High-tech Zone.


WANG Qiang, Deputy Secretary of the Lhasa Municipal Party Committee, Executive Deputy Mayor, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Beijing Aid to Tibet Command and Commander, attended the groundbreaking ceremony and delivered a speech.


At the ceremony, WANG Qiang commended the work and achievements of the project builders and technology industry elites. He stated that Lhasa is located in the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and has unique geographical advantages, social environment and historical opportunities to promote the development of big data industry and digital economy. Tibet Ningsuan Technology Group, as the leading high-tech enterprises have realized the promotion of data to the plateau, created a height for the development of Lhasa's technology industry, enriched the connotation, and broadened the extension.


WANG Qiang stressed that, recently the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially approved the establishment of Lhasa regional international communication service entrance and exit bureau. This is a milestone in the development of Tibet's digital economy (new infrastructure). Lhasa will become the country's communication and information backbone node for South Asia and promote Tibet's rapid integration into the country's major strategies such as "One Road" and "Building a New Open Economic System". The completion of Lhasa integrated data center project, which is of great significance to the deployment of safe and reliable cloud computing, big data, and artificial intelligence services. It also has important meaning for building the world's highest green data center and AI computing power-driven data operation enterprise as well as global computing power center for the digital economy .


After the ceremony, WANG Qiang visited the ECC control center and data center computer room building of the operation and maintenance building of the first stage project of Tibet Ningsuan Technology Group, and listened the work report on the group's industrial computing, "One Belt One Road" expansion in South Asia, edge computing AI research and development, etc. He encouraged the company to strengthen its confidence in development, actively promote the development of Lhasa into a big data industry base radiating the whole country and South Asian countries, and create a new pattern of "industrial aid to Tibet and data aid to Tibet".


Tibet Ningsuan Technology Group is the largest scientific and technological enterprise aided by Beijing in Tibet. The new generation of international standard cloud data center built by this group fills the gap of Tibet's big data storage center and becomes the highest data center in the world so far. The first phase project was completed and officially put into operation in January this year. The second phase of the project has an area of 45,000 square meters. The planned total investment is about CNY 1.2 billion and more than 7,000 cabinets are designed. It is expected to be completed in October 2021.
