GDS Unveils Launch Of AWS Direct Connect In Its Shanghai And Shenzhen Data Centres

GDS also revealed that its customers can directly access AWS over a private,enterprise-grade network connection.


Chinese data centre operator GDS Holdings Limited has announced the launch of Amazon Web Services Direct Connect in the company’s Shanghai and Shenzhen data centres.


“We are excited to have AWS Direct Connect access points present in our data centres,”said William Huang,Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GDS Holdings.“Our cloud access brings networking into the cloud era and works well with cloud solutions building on AWS.


“The deployment of their access points within our facilities marks another milestone for us and gives our customers multi-choice access to world-leading cloud solutions,enabling them to scale their connectivity.”


The company added that this deployment represents the first and only native points of connectivity to AWS Direct Connect available in Shanghai and Shenzhen,which are two important markets in China.


Two weeks ago,GDS Holdings Limited raised a total of approximately$445m in proceeds from its public offering after the underwriters’exercise in full of their option to purchase additional ADSs,after deducting underwriting discounts and commissions(but before expenses).

The company announced that the underwriters of its previously announced public offering have exercised in full their option to purchase an additional 1,791,044 ADSs from GDS at the public offering price of$33.50 per ADS,with each ADS representing eight Class A ordinary shares.


GDS Holdings Limited’s portfolio includes 17 self-developed carrier-neutral data centre facilities in service and under construction totalling 1.2 million colocation sq ft in some of China’s Tier 1 cities,including Beijing,Shanghai,Shenzhen,Guangzhou,and Chengdu.


In 2017,CyrusOne invested$100m in the acquisition of an 8%stake in GDS Holdings Limited as the company wanted to ramp up its efforts to expand its cloud business in the Chinese market.
