China’s PPMG entry into data center market

IDCNOVA news: Phoenix Publishing Media Group(hereinafter referred to as PPMG),one of leading listed media group in China announces to establish a joint venture with other three companies and launches a data center site.


Located in East China’s Nanjing City,this site is scheduled to complete through 2 stages,costing 660 million RMB in total.After the completion,it will hold 3,000 cabinets.The first stage will be constructed during February 2019 to December 2019,installing 1,200 cabinets.The second stage will cost 1 year’s period to install additional 1,800 cabinets.


Referring to the availability of this project,PPMG replied that the demand for data center facilities in Tier I areas of China is still surging although it’s restructuring oversupply overall across the country.Thus it decides to launch a new data base upon the previously rich experiences of investment and construction as well as operations,and the customer demand.In addition,PPMB regards this move to enhance integration of its featured media business with cloud computing,and forge up a strategy of internet plus education and live streaming.

摄图网_500356098_wx.jpgIt is not the first trial in data center industry by PPMG,which launched its data center project in Shanghai back in August 2017,costing 360 million yuan,with 3,000 cabinets,which is scheduled to be available before the end of 2020.However,due to local industrial policies on data center and environmental scrutiny in Shanghai,PPMG determined to terminated this project in April 2018.


With the cultural industry booming of China recent year,more and more local media companies are exploring their business in data center market.In June 2017,Shannxi BC and TV Network Co.Launched its data base in Xi’an City for a new media integrated broadcasting platform and network.On December 26,2017,Zhejiang Daily Digital Culture opened its data center in Hangzhou for a professional service platform mainly on big data and others.On May 13,2018,Golden Eagle Broadcasting System from Hunan Province signed a strategic agreement with Huawei to mutual construct and operate the AMI data center,integrating AI,MR and IP to provide public cloud service and promote business development.
