Lonestar Announces StarVault Data Storage Platform, Extends Agreement with Sidus Space
April 17, 2026
Lonestar Data Holdings, a pioneer in extraterrestrial data infrastructure, has unveiled its first commercially operational space-based sovereign data storage platform, StarVault, and expanded its manufacturing agreement with Sidus Space to meet surging demand. This move signals a significant acceleration in the nascent market for off-planet data security, which aims to protect critical digital assets from terrestrial threats including cyberattacks, natural disasters, and geopolitical instability.
The company announced that Sidus Space is currently constructing the inaugural StarVault payload, scheduled for launch in October 2026 aboard the LizzieSat-4 satellite. Building on this, Lonestar has secured a second orbital payload from Sidus, targeted for launch the following year. This expansion is a direct response to what the company describes as "strong demand" from government entities, financial institutions, and critical infrastructure operators seeking ultra-secure, sovereign data storage solutions beyond Earth's confines. The second payload will enhance the system's overall storage capacity, provide crucial redundancy, and improve orbital coverage.
"Demand for off-planet data security has exceeded expectations," stated Stephen Eisele, CEO of Lonestar. "With StarVault, we are not just launching a new category—we are scaling it." The company's long-term vision involves deploying data centers on the lunar surface and in orbit around the Moon to serve as ultimate disaster recovery sites. This initiative builds upon Lonestar's previous milestone: deploying a first-of-its-kind data center on the Moon during the IM-2 mission in the previous year.
Carol Craig, founder and CEO of Sidus Space, commented on the expanded partnership: "The expansion highlights the strength of our engineering processes and our ability to support increasingly complex payload integrations. Sidus is designed to deliver scalable space hardware through proven manufacturing, integration, and mission execution." The collaboration underscores the growing intersection between the data center and commercial space industries, as terrestrial digital infrastructure faces escalating risks.
The announcement follows a period of strategic momentum for Lonestar. In January 2026, the company appointed former president and CRO Stephen Eisele as its CEO and secured $6.6 million in funding specifically dedicated to advancing its lunar and cislunar data center ambitions. As data centers solidify their status as global critical infrastructure and become targets in both cyber and physical conflicts, Lonestar's StarVault platform represents a radical rethinking of data preservation, potentially setting a new standard for sovereign and resilient data storage for high-value clients worldwide.
