Noris Network Breaks Ground on New 30MW Data Center in Frankfurt Metro
April 17, 2026
German managed service provider Noris Network AG has commenced construction on a significant new data center in the Frankfurt metropolitan area, underscoring the sustained demand for digital infrastructure driven by artificial intelligence and sovereign cloud requirements in Europe's key financial hub.
The company announced this week that work has begun on its FRA1 facility, a 30-megawatt data center located in Schwalbach am Taunus, approximately 11 kilometers northwest of central Frankfurt. The 7,000-square-meter building is scheduled to be commissioned and operational by September 2027.
Florian Sippel, COO of Noris Network, linked the project directly to the accelerating demand for AI. "The demand for sovereign AI applications is growing exponentially. With our modular architecture, we are creating the infrastructure for the requirements of tomorrow," Sippel stated. The company has appointed Data Center Group as the general contractor for the project.
This expansion marks a strategic move for Noris Network, which was founded in 1993 and historically operated six data centers across five sites in Bavaria, including Nuremberg and Munich. The new Frankfurt-area facility significantly extends its geographic footprint into one of the world's most interconnected data center markets. The location in Schwalbach am Taunus places it near existing infrastructure, including a facility operated by Maincubes.
The development highlights the continued growth and competitive dynamics within the Frankfurt data center landscape, where capacity is increasingly sought after to support next-generation computing workloads. The focus on a modular design and sovereign AI capabilities reflects broader industry trends toward flexible, secure, and high-powered infrastructure tailored for specific regulatory and technological demands.
