Oracle Becomes First Hyperscaler to Launch Public Cloud Region in North Africa with Casablanca Opening

Oracle Launches Cloud Region in Casablanca, Morocco

April 10, 2026

Oracle has significantly expanded its global cloud footprint by launching its first public cloud region in North Africa, located in Casablanca, Morocco. This strategic move positions the tech giant as the pioneering hyperscaler to establish such infrastructure in the region, aiming to capture the growing demand for digital and AI services across Morocco and neighboring countries.

The Oracle Cloud Casablanca Region officially became operational on April 7, 2026, according to the company's announcement. Oracle documentation indicates that one availability domain within the region had been available since late February. The company first revealed its plans to enter the Moroccan market in March 2024. The new region is hosted by local provider N+One Datacenters, which operates six data center buildings in Morocco with a combined IT capacity of 4.5MW across 4,000 square meters of space, split between sites in Nouaceur, an area of Casablanca, and the city of Settat.

Cormac Watters, executive vice president and general manager for EMEA at Oracle, emphasized the region's strategic importance. "The opening of our cloud region in Casablanca is a major milestone in our commitment to supporting Morocco’s growth and its position as a regional hub for AI and digital innovation," Watters stated. "With Oracle Cloud Casablanca Region, we are providing organizations across Morocco and North Africa with the secure, high-performance infrastructure they need to innovate with AI and the cloud, and to compete globally."

The launch marks a key step in Oracle's African expansion strategy. Beyond the Casablanca region, Oracle has confirmed plans for a second Moroccan cloud region in Settat, though a specific timeline has not been disclosed. The company already operates a cloud region in Johannesburg, South Africa, and has announced plans for another in Nairobi, Kenya, which will be hosted by iXAfrica. This expansion is set to provide local businesses and public sector organizations with reduced latency, data residency options, and access to Oracle's full suite of cloud services, potentially accelerating digital transformation and AI adoption across the continent.
