Deutsche Telekom Launches Nvidia-Powered AI Factory in Munich to Bolster European Sovereignty

February 9, 2026

In a significant move to strengthen Europe's position in the global artificial intelligence race, Deutsche Telekom has inaugurated a major new "AI factory" data center in Munich, Germany. The facility, powered by Nvidia's latest hardware, is positioned as a cornerstone for the region's sovereign AI ambitions, aiming to provide secure, locally-hosted computational power for industry, research, and the public sector. The launch marks the operational start of the high-performance computing cluster, dubbed the "Industrial AI Cloud," which is housed within a data center operated by Polarise in Munich's Tucherpark district. The core of the deployment consists of approximately 10,000 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs, including DGX B200 systems and RTX PRO server GPUs. Deutsche Telekom emphasized that the infrastructure is operated under strict German data protection, security, and availability standards. Already, more than a third of the deployed compute capacity is being utilized by the telco's current customers. The AI factory forms the foundational layer of the "Germany Stack," a sovereign cloud and AI platform developed jointly by Deutsche Telekom and software giant SAP. Telekom's subsidiary T-Systems manages the infrastructure and platform layer, while industrial conglomerate Siemens is integrating parts of its simulation portfolio into the new cloud environment. Tim Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, stated, "We don't just talk, Deutsche Telekom takes action. We are investing in AI, in Germany, and in Europe. Our AI factory in Munich is the foundation for innovative business models, for industry, startups, and the government – and for sovereignty. Here, we are proving that Europe can handle AI." The project also received political endorsement, with Germany's Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil calling it "an important milestone for the German and European AI ecosystem" that strengthens digital sovereignty. The initiative underscores a broader European effort to reduce dependency on non-European cloud and AI service providers. By offering a large-scale, Nvidia-powered platform on domestic soil, Deutsche Telekom aims to capture growing demand from enterprises and institutions requiring high-performance AI compute while adhering to stringent EU regulatory frameworks.
