Enfinity Global Commissions 33.8MW Italian Solar Farm Under Microsoft Power Deal
February 3, 2026
In a significant move for Europe's renewable energy and tech sectors, Enfinity Global has activated a 33.8-megawatt solar power plant in Italy, marking the first operational project under a major power purchase agreement (PPA) with Microsoft. The deal underscores the intensifying drive by hyperscale cloud providers to secure clean, long-term energy supplies for their rapidly expanding data center operations. The renewable energy developer announced the project's commissioning this week. This initial 33.8 MW installation is part of a broader framework agreement that could see Enfinity Global deliver up to 366 MW of renewable capacity to the technology giant across Italy. The projects are slated for development in the regions of Lazio, Emilia-Romagna, and Basilicata, though the exact location of this first site was not disclosed. Carlos Domenech, CEO of Enfinity Global, stated, "We are delighted to provide solar energy electricity to a global technology leader like Microsoft. At Enfinity Global, our mission is to provide our global and local customers with reliable, value-added renewable energy solutions while we serve as a responsible member of the communities where we operate our power plants." The company, founded in 2019, manages a substantial global portfolio of 39.3 gigawatts of renewable energy and storage projects across various stages of development. For Microsoft, this PPA represents one of its first major renewable energy procurements in the Italian market. It follows a €4.3 billion ($4.75bn) commitment made in 2024 to expand its cloud and AI data center infrastructure in the country, centered around its Milan cloud region. The partnership is designed to advance Microsoft's corporate sustainability targets while generating local investment and jobs. The agreement reflects a broader industry trend where tech giants are directly contracting for large-scale green power to decarbonize their energy-intensive operations. Microsoft has been particularly active in securing European PPAs, with a recent 95.7 MW solar agreement in Spain's Aragon region. As AI and cloud computing demand surges, such deals are becoming critical for companies to manage their environmental footprint and ensure a stable, cost-effective power supply for future growth.
