Offers will target deployments across APAC and the Middle East
South Korean fabless AI chip startup Rebellions has partnered with Marvell to offer high-performance, energy-efficient AI systems that support sovereign and regional AI deployments across APAC and the Middle East.
According to Rebellions, it will design customer-specific AI chips that include Marvell’s advanced packaging and interconnect technology, “resulting in a tightly integrated, end-to-end rack solution built for high-performance, energy-efficient AI inference at scale.”
The startup said the partnership reflects a broader shift away from general-purpose GPUs toward the demand for scalable, domain-specific systems from both global hyperscalers and regional cloud providers.
“AI infrastructure is undergoing a fundamental shift—organizations are no longer settling for one-size-fits-all solutions,” said Sunghyun Park, co-founder and CEO of Rebellions. “By collaborating with Marvell, we’re combining deep expertise in AI chip design with cutting-edge silicon integration to deliver custom AI infrastructure designed to meet the real-world needs of sovereign entities.”
Will Chu, SVP and GM of custom cloud solutions at Marvell, added: “Custom AI infrastructure is key to unlocking the next wave of data center innovation. We look forward to collaborating with Rebellions to offer next-generation custom AI infrastructure tailored for performance, efficiency, and scalability.”
Founded in 2020, Rebellions specializes in AI inference accelerators that offer energy efficiency and low-latency performance. The company began mass-producing its Atom NPU to run large language models (LLMs) in the data center in 2023.
In January 2024, Rebellions closed a $124 million Series B funding round, which was extended to include participation from Wa’ed Ventures this month, the venture unit of Saudi oil company Aramco.
Wa’ed Ventures invested $15m in the startup, with Rebellions' Park saying at the time: “Excited to announce that Team Rebellions is officially the first Korean startup to receive strategic funding from Aramco Wa'ed Ventures! We will work together to build high-performance and energy-efficient AI data centers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia!”
In June of that same year, the company agreed to a merger with Sapeon Korea, a semiconductor company that was spun out of SK Telecom in 2016.
Elsewhere this week, it was reported that Samsung Electronics had invested an undisclosed amount in Rebellions as the startup targets a funding round of up to $200m ahead of a public listing.
