SEAX Global completes acquisition of data center campus in Jakarta

SEAX Global/SEAX Indonesia Pratama has successfully completed the acquisition of an 8,400 square meter site in BSD Technopark, South Tangerang, Indonesia for its new SEAX Global Data Centre Campus.

SEAX Global provides connectivity solutions across in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, but the new campus is SEAX Global’s first foray into the data center space. With seamless wholesale connectivity solutions across South East Asia in mind, SEAX’s strategic move into the data center space was a natural progression for the company, which currently builds, owns, and operates submarine and terrestrial cable assets across the region.

The design of the data center in BSD Technopark will consist of a dual-phase single block data center, comprising of four-to-eight data halls, supported with a minimum total power load of 30 MVA

SEAX Global CEO Louis Teng said: “In line with our efforts at continually transforming and expanding the business beyond connectivity offerings, the SEAX data center is a natural development from our desire to better serve our customers’ needs as a one-stop shop ICT solutions provider.

“With the completion of SEAX’s very own data center in Jakarta, our customers will be able to enjoy a seamless PoP [point of presence] to PoP infrastructure offering across Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia.”

Teng also explained why Jakarta was chosen for SEAX’s venture into the data center space. “The digital economy in Indonesia is expected to exceed $124 billion by the end of 2025. We have also observed a strong mandate from the Indonesian government to capitalize on digital transformation and specific ICT infrastructure development.

“We believe that this momentum is fuelled by the increasing adoption of cloud-based services to which data centers play an integral and essential role and serve as an important conduit.

“Nevertheless, it is our view that the Indonesia data center market remains underdeveloped and these cloud-based services run the likely risk of being underserved. This presents a gap in the market and a huge opportunity for SEAX in the data center space given our soon to be commissioned submarine cable landing facilities in Batam, existing fiber assets and connectivity networks in the region.”

The SEAX Jakarta-Tangerang data center is scheduled to complete its phase 1 construction in 2025, and is expected to integrate both environmentally friendly materials and sustainable features in its building. SEAX is currently in discussions with various potential partners to explore a collaborative build on the data center.
