Koramco and DCI Break Ground on 40MW AI Data Center in Seoul, South Korea
Koramco Asset Management and DCI Data Center have officially broken ground on a new data center in the Seoul metropolitan area, marking another major step in the expansion of South Korea’s digital infrastructure. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Ansan Sihwa AI data center was held this week at the Sihwa National Industrial Complex in Danwon-gu, Ansan-si, according to local press reports.
The multi-story facility will total 26,810 square meters (approximately 288,580 square feet) and is designed to deliver 40MW of IT capacity. The project, first announced last year, represents DCI’s second data center in South Korea, following its 20MW SEL01 facility in Seoul. It also marks Koramco’s second investment in the data center sector, underscoring the growing appetite among institutional investors for digital infrastructure assets in the Asia-Pacific region.
DCI Data Center, a fully-owned portfolio company of Brookfield Asset Management, was founded in 2015 and acquired by Brookfield in 2019. The operator now has more than ten data center sites with 130MW of IT capacity in development across the APAC region, including locations in Sydney, Adelaide, and Canberra in Australia, as well as Auckland, New Zealand. The new Seoul facility is expected to serve the rising demand for AI and cloud workloads in one of Asia’s most dynamic digital economies.
The development highlights the strategic importance of the Korean capital as a data center hub, driven by surging demand for high-density computing and low-latency connectivity. As the region continues to see rapid adoption of AI services and hyperscale cloud platforms, projects like the Ansan Sihwa facility are critical to meeting the energy and capacity requirements of next-generation applications.
