Apple Signs 150MW Renewable Energy Deal with CleanMax in India, Expands Green Initiatives
Apple has announced a series of sustainability-focused initiatives in India, headlined by a 150MW renewable energy supply agreement with CleanMax. The deal, which marks a significant expansion of the companies’ existing partnership, includes an initial investment of INR 100 crore (approximately $11.83 million) from Apple to support the development of new renewable capacity. This agreement builds on a long-term relationship that has already seen CleanMax deploy several rooftop solar projects to power Apple’s offices and retail stores across the country.
Beyond the renewable energy deal, Apple has partnered with conservation organization WWF-India to support recycling and waste management initiatives. The collaboration will build on WWF’s existing work with waste management firm Saahas Zero Waste in Goa. Under the partnership, Apple will help companies establish facilities for collecting, sorting, and recovering recyclable materials with full traceability, aimed at preventing plastic leakage into surrounding ecosystems. With Apple’s backing, these efforts will expand into new regions, including the city of Coimbatore.
In a separate initiative, Apple has launched a program to back early-stage entrepreneurs through a new partnership with Acumen. The initiative will provide catalytic grants to six green enterprises developing solutions in waste management, circular economy, sustainable consumption, and regenerative agriculture and livelihoods. According to Apple, the program will offer mentorship, strategic guidance, technical assistance, and network access to help social entrepreneurs validate promising business models and put them on a path to scale.
These announcements come as part of Apple’s broader push to bolster its clean energy credentials globally. The company has signed several clean energy deals in recent years, including a series of agreements across Europe last October that added more than 650MW of new renewable capacity. The latest moves in India underscore Apple’s commitment to expanding its sustainability footprint in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets for renewable energy and data center infrastructure.
