AWS, Siemens Energy deepen cloud partnership to tackle data center power demand

AWS and Siemens Energy Expand Strategic Partnership to Address Data Center Energy Demands

April 6, 2026

As global data center power consumption surges, driven by the exponential growth of artificial intelligence and cloud computing, the industry faces mounting pressure to secure reliable, scalable, and sustainable energy infrastructure. In a significant move to address this critical challenge, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Siemens Energy have announced a deepened strategic partnership that intertwines cloud modernization with energy system innovation.

Under the expanded agreement, Siemens Energy has named AWS its strategic cloud provider. The industrial giant will leverage a suite of AWS services, including Amazon Bedrock for generative AI, Amazon SageMaker for machine learning, and AWS IoT SiteWise for industrial data monitoring, to modernize its own global operations. This digital transformation aims to enhance efficiency across manufacturing, supply chain, and plant management, enabling use cases like predictive maintenance and autonomous operations.

Concurrently, the collaboration focuses directly on the energy infrastructure supporting AWS's vast data center fleet. Siemens Energy will continue to provide turnkey electrical substation solutions to connect AWS facilities to the grid. Furthermore, the companies are jointly exploring the deployment of advanced technologies at a gigawatt scale to meet escalating power demands. These initiatives include potential developments in large-scale power generation, microgrids, sustainable backup power systems, and grid stability technologies. Siemens Energy will also utilize AWS cloud services to improve project delivery management for this critical infrastructure, aiming to streamline execution timelines.

Frederik Doye, Senior Vice President of Siemens Energy in Europe, stated, “Our strategic collaboration with AWS accelerates our efficiency and digital transformation while we deliver stable, reliable and more sustainable infrastructure that gets power to the right place at the right time.”

The new pact builds upon existing joint projects, such as the Siemens Energy IoT Connected Factory platform, which runs on AWS. This platform connects operational technology with IT systems for real-time monitoring and has already demonstrated improvements in manufacturing productivity using AWS cloud infrastructure. The expanded partnership signifies a holistic approach where cloud and AI capabilities are leveraged not only to optimize Siemens Energy's internal processes but also to co-develop the robust energy solutions required to power the next generation of data centers.
