Anthropic in Advanced Talks with Google for Multibillion-Dollar Cloud Computing Partnership

 October 22, 2025

Anthropic PBC is currently engaged in discussions with Alphabet Inc.’s Google regarding a monumental cloud computing agreement, a deal that would furnish the artificial intelligence firm with computing power valued in the high tens of billions of dollars, according to sources familiar with the negotiations. While the plan has not been finalized, the arrangement would involve Google providing cloud computing services to Anthropic, allowing the AI company to leverage Google's custom-designed tensor processing units (TPUs) to accelerate its machine learning workloads. This potential partnership builds upon an existing relationship, as Google is both a previous investor in and a cloud provider for Anthropic.

The talks are reported to be in their early stages, and the specific details are subject to change. Both Anthropic and Google have declined to comment on the ongoing discussions. The market reacted swiftly to the news, with Google shares jumping more than 3.5% in extended trading. Conversely, shares of Amazon.com Inc., which is also a significant investor in and cloud provider for Anthropic, slipped approximately 2%.

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, San Francisco-based Anthropic has rapidly become a key player in the AI landscape, best known for its Claude family of large language models that directly compete with OpenAI's GPT offerings. Like its industry peers, Anthropic has been aggressively raising capital to maintain its competitive edge in the fiercely contested race to advance artificial intelligence. Industry leaders consistently emphasize that staying at the forefront will require immense resources for continued research, technological breakthroughs, and to meet growing consumer demand.

This potential deal with Google follows closely on the heels of Anthropic's recent financial activities. The company recently held early funding talks with Abu Dhabi-based investment firm MGX, occurring about a month after it closed a massive $13 billion funding round. That financing, led by Iconiq Capital with Fidelity Management and Research Co. and Lightspeed Venture Partners as co-leads, dramatically increased Anthropic’s valuation to $183 billion. Google's previous investments total approximately $3 billion, including a $2 billion commitment in 2023 followed by another $1 billion earlier this year. For context, Amazon has committed to invest about $8 billion in Anthropic, which serves as a key AI customer for Amazon Web Services and a major user of Amazon's custom AI chips.
