France's Nation DC Launches 3MW Sovereign Data Center in Brittany

October 16, 2025

French colocation firm Nation Data Center has officially launched a new facility on the outskirts of Rennes, marking a significant expansion of its national infrastructure. The inauguration of the data center, located in Noyal-sur-Vilaine, Brittany, follows the company's initial announcement of the Brittany project in March 2022 and the subsequent groundbreaking last year. This week, the company celebrated the launch on LinkedIn, stating, “This data center embodies our ambition: to offer a sovereign, responsible, and local infrastructure, at the service of the territories and the digital transition."

The new site, named NDC Roazhon, is situated on a 4,000 sqm (43,055 sq ft) plot and offers 3MW of capacity distributed across 3,000 sqm (32,300 sq ft) of technical space, which can accommodate approximately 560 racks. According to local press, the €30 million ($35m) facility has already launched with four initial customers. Ludovic Castillo, president of Nation Data Center, emphasized the strategic importance of the event, stating, “The inauguration of NDC Rennes marks a major step forward in our deployment plan. This first data center embodies our desire to propose a French response to the crucial challenges of sovereignty and digital security, while fully integrating environmental requirements."

This development is a key part of the company's broader ambition to operate a network of 15 sovereign data centers located exclusively within France by the year 2030. Nation DC's growth trajectory has been supported by recent corporate changes; founded in 2020 and previously under the ownership of the Bakjy Group, the company was acquired by French investment firm Altarea in 2022, with Crédit Agricole also reported as an investor.

Beyond the Rennes facility, Nation DC is actively developing its national footprint. The company is currently working on a site in Normandy, which was announced in August 2022 and is scheduled to launch in 2027. Its website lists two planned sites around Paris, with local press reporting specific development activity in the Vélizy area of Yvelines, just outside the French capital. The company's previously stated expansion plans have also identified future projects in major French cities including Bordeaux, Marseille, Nice, Toulouse, Lille, Lyon, and Strasbourg, and it had an existing agreement to offer capacity in Thésée DataCenters’ facility in Aubergenville.
