Construction is officially underway on Telehouse's newest state-of-the-art data center in London's Docklands, marking a significant £263 million investment in the UK's digital infrastructure. The groundbreaking ceremony for the 11-story facility, named Telehouse LHR5, was held recently at the company's longstanding campus. This new build is a direct response to the escalating demand for data and colocation services, particularly those driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and increasing needs for digital sovereignty.
Strategically located within the core Telehouse London Docklands campus, the building will rise adjacent to the existing Telehouse North and Telehouse Central facilities. Upon its scheduled opening in the first quarter of 2027, Telehouse LHR5 will add a substantial 15,600 square meters (168,000 square feet) of technical space and bring 38MW of critical IT load capacity to the market. This expansion is designed to bolster the campus's role as a major international connectivity hub, offering clients seamless interconnections with over 400 network carriers and an extensive ecosystem of more than 700 telecommunication and IT service providers.
The project is being developed in partnership with the construction firm ISG, which is responsible for the main construction works. The design of the data center prioritizes both sustainability and operational efficiency, incorporating advanced features such as indirect evaporative cooling with natural free cooling. This system is expected to achieve industry-leading power usage effectiveness (PUE) and water usage effectiveness (WUE) metrics. Furthermore, the facility is planned to operate on 100% renewable energy from its first day of operation, aligning with Telehouse's broader commitment to environmental responsibility and supporting the digital economy's growth with a minimized carbon footprint.
