Subsidiary established to explore developments in Frankfurt
Green Datacenter, a Swiss data center operator, has entered the German market.
The company, which primarily services enterprise customers and cloud providers, announced on September 11 that it had established a subsidiary, Green Datacenter Germany GmbH, and that it had finished conducting evaluations for potential data locations in the area around Frankfurt.
Heiko Siats, a former business development manager at CBRE, has been appointed managing director of the subsidiary.
The company intends to further expand into Europe, with CEO Roger Suess adding that “the move to Germany marks another milestone in our growth strategy.”
The establishment of the subsidiary comes two months after the announcement that Green’s owner, InfraVia Capital Partners, had agreed to sell the company to institutional investor IFM Investors, with Green reportedly valued at about €1 billion ($1.1bn). InfraVia had itself acquired the company from telco Altice in 2017 for around $217 million.
Founded in 1995, Green currently operates six data centers at four locations in its home country of Switzerland, most of which are concentrated in the area around Zurich. Three more are under construction.
