Amazon deepened its commitment to the Hayward, California, community by expanding its partnership with Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) to support a comprehensive Summer Internship Scholarship Program for high school students. The sponsorship supported the program where more than 20 students participated. At the end of the program, the students shared their experience with families, school district and Hayward city officials, teachers, and members of the community in a heartwarming graduation ceremony. This partnership enabled participation by removing financial barriers that might otherwise prevent students from accessing valuable career experiences.

"Our partnership with Amazon has been a true 360-degree collaboration," said Norma Diaz, career pathways TOSA, HUSD. "Not only have students gained eye-opening exposure to STEM careers and fully committed to building valuable workforce skills, but local businesses have also directly benefited by witnessing the incredible talent within Hayward Unified School District."

The program began with soft skills development workshops and culminated in 80-hour internship placements with local industry partners. Students received ongoing support from the district's Career Technical Education (CTE) team, with coordination through the district's college and career coordinator, CTE teacher on special assignment, and college and career technicians at each high school.

"This partnership empowers our students to imagine, explore, and take confident steps toward their career goals," said Veronica Ortiz, college and career coordinator, HUSD. "Through programs like Girls' Tech Day, We Build It Better, and Spring Break Tech Camp, our youth gained hands-on experience and discovered what is possible."

This initiative represented Amazon's continued investment in building a strong, skilled, and future-ready workforce across our data center communities, creating pathways to success for students while strengthening connections between education and industry that benefited the local economy.
