Digital Halo secures 150MW of power from Malaysian utility TNB for JHB1 data center in Johor, Malaysia

Company's second data center development

Pan Asian data center developer Digital Halo has signed an energy supply agreement with Malaysian utility Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) for 150MW of energy to power a planned data center campus in Johor, Malaysia.

The energy supply will power the JHB1 data center located in the Nusa Cemerlang Industrial Park, Johor Bahru. The data center is currently under construction. When completed, the data center is expected to support cloud services and AI workloads.

The data center is being constructed on a 20.46-acre industrial plot. Digital Halo acquired the site from Crescendo Corporation Berhad for a reported RM115.87 million ($24.6 million). Details on when the data center will reach operational status and its capacity were not disclosed. DCD has reached out for further information.

“The Electricity Supply Agreement is a critical milestone in ensuring reliable, high-capacity power for our data center campus. It ensures we can move swiftly from concept to completion, keeping pace with the evolving needs of our clients. TNB’s commitment to delivering world-class energy solutions reinforces Malaysia’s standing as a leading hub for data centers in the region,” said Kai Goh, co-founder and CEO of Digital Halo.

According to the company, the supply agreement was streamlined through the TNB Green Lane Pathway and One-Stop Centre (OSC) for data centers. The OSC features fast-track supply offerings for electricity, where data centers are connected three times faster than the normal delivery time, reducing the implementation period from 36-48 months to just 12 months.

“This milestone marks the culmination of close collaboration with TNB, whose commitment and professionalism have been instrumental in ensuring timely and reliable power delivery,” said Luv Parikh, head of infrastructure, Asia of Partners Group.

Digital Halo was launched in 2023 by Arch Capital, an APAC real estate investment firm. At present, it has one data center in operation, located in Manila, the Philippines. The first phase of the project came online in 2023 and currently spans 7,015 sqm (75,508 sq ft). It will eventually offer a capacity of up to 70MW across the entire campus of three buildings.

In May of this year, the company was acquired by Partners Group. Under the terms of the agreement, Partners, alongside Arch Capita, agreed to invest $400 million in Digital Halo to help the company expand its data center platform to more than 500MW of capacity across several markets in Asia.

TNB has signed several energy supply agreements with data center companies. In June, the utility signed a 500MW solar supply agreement with DayOne to power DayOne’s Nusajaya Tech Park, in Gelang Patah, and Kempas Tech Park, in Johor Bahru, which have a combined capacity of 120MW.

Before this, in December of last year, it signed a 400MW electricity supply agreement with Bridge Data Centres to power its MY07 data center in Johor Ulu Tiram, Malaysia.
