ARSAT plans multi-million-dollar expansion of Buenos Aires data center

The contract must meet stringent energy efficiency criteria

Argentina's state-owned telecommunications company, ARSAT, has opened a public procurement process to expand its data center in Benavidez, in the province of Buenos Aires.

The $17 million contract involves the design, construction, provision of equipment, and commissioning of a new Tier III room ("Room/Hall IV"), in addition to the 50 percent expansion of the AMS chest room, a high security space to house strategic equipment.

Room IV will have a total IT load design of 620kW and will have 24 racks of 15kW densities, eight racks of 10kW, and 45 racks of between 4-8kW, all with cold aisle confinement.

The tender also includes a maintenance service for all the facilities after completion and handover of the project to ARSAT. The maximum term of the contract will be 24 months from the date of signing.

The contract includes energy efficiency requirements for Hall IV, such as the implementation of the DCIM system for monitoring and managing energy use, as well as the contracting of a supplier that offers 100 percent renewable energy or that offsets its carbon emissions.

Companies interested in submitting their project bid must meet various qualification criteria and requirements detailed in the tender. For example, they must have international certifications that guarantee their quality, safety, and environmental protection processes in their management systems.

In 2022, the World Bank approved a $200 million loan to support Argentina's digital transformation and help bridge the digital divide. The Argentine government plans to allocate part of these funds to the ARSAT project.

The deadline for applications is September 16.
