Puts out tenders for the procurement of servers, firewalls, and network switches
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) is planning to construct a new data center.
The exchange has put out tenders for the procurement of servers, firewalls, and network switches. Those interested must submit a security deposit of Rs 400,000 ($2,860) along with their applications by September 21.
According to a report from Khabarhub, the data center is expected to improve the exchange’s technological infrastructure, including the efficiency and security of its trading operations.
NEPSE previously decided in 2018, following a three-month-long dispute, to locate a central server at the Nepal Stock Exchange building to ensure that the planned introduction of an automated trading system would not put data at risk. At the time, the exchange said it planned to build and operate its own dedicated data center by 2020.
It is unclear if a data center has since been constructed or if this new project is related to those plans.
NEPSE is headquartered in Singha Durbar Plaza, Kathmandu, and was inaugurated in 1994.
Nepal has a very small data center market, with DataCenterMap listing six facilities, all in the capital city, Kathmandu.
Operators include DataHub, AccessWorld, and Cloud Himalaya. A government data center is also listed. Other data center projects either deployed or in the works include a Huawei-built data center for Nepal Telecom, a WordLink data center, a facility developed under a joint venture between BLC Holding and Yotta, and a Nepal Electricity Authority-operated data center.
