Expected to commence development next year
The Indian state of Maharashtra has partnered with real estate developer Prestige Group to develop a data center campus in and around Navi Mumbai, India.
The state government inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the real estate developer for an investment package of more than Rs 12,500 crore ($1.42 million), with Rs 5,000 crore ($571,288) earmarked for the large-scale data center campus.
The project is scarce on details, but according to reports will include commercial, residential, and allied facilities in the Taloja locality of Mumbai's satellite city. The project is expected to commence construction in 2026 and create 1,200 direct jobs.
Commenting on the investment, executive director of Prestige Group Zayd Noaman, said: “Our focus on logistics, data centers, and GCC parks aligns with the state’s strategic priorities and will drive transformative growth.”
The remaining funds will support the development of a Global Capability Centre in Navi Mumbai and a Mega Logistics and Industrial Centre at Khalapur.
Prestige Group is an India-based property developer, focusing on the residential, commercial, retail, leisure, and hospitality sectors.
In 2023, Prestige partnered with NTT to construct a 100MW data center campus in Bangalore/Bengaluru, India.
Maharashtra is one of India’s premier data center hubs. The state, and its capital Mumbai, is home to several large-scale developers, including NTT and STT DC.
Amazon Web Services also provides cloud services in the region, first entering India with its Mumbai region back in 2016. The company invested $3.7bn into that region between 2016 and 2022. At the start of the year, AWS committed to investing a further $8.3bn into its Mumbai cloud region.
