Signed a six-year partnership at start of the year
Southern Company subsidiary PowerSecure has expanded its partnership with Edged, a US-based data center developer, to supply power distribution solutions across Edged data centers in the US.
The agreement builds on a previous collaboration between the two companies signed at the start of the year. The six-year agreement has so far seen the deployment of 152MW of critical load capacity at Edged data centers across Atlanta, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Des Moines, Kansas City, and Phoenix.
“We are proud to work with Edged in delivering customized, resilient power solutions that support the next generation of data centers,” said Jim Smith, president of PowerSecure. “This alliance reflects the strength of our team and our shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and reliability in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. PowerSecure is proud to be a key player in addressing these challenges, delivering the reliability and resilience upon which our communities and customers have come to depend.”
PowerSecure is supplying Edged with its PowerBlock microgrid system. The system is a standby and prime power solution capable of providing 24 hours of power on a full tank. Each unit has a capacity of 625kW and can be scaled to up to 20MW without additional hardware and 60MW with an additional group controller. According to the company, it can run on both traditional diesel and renewable diesel fuels.
It further claims that its generators have enhanced fuel efficiency, superior performance, and reduced environmental impact relative to other generators on the market.
“Working with PowerSecure has allowed us to provide ultraclean, reliable power for our rapidly expanding platform of sustainable data centers,” said Mitch Fonseca, chief operating officer at Edged. “Their expertise in advanced power solutions helps ensure that each facility maintains the highest standards for uptime and efficiency.”
Edged Energy was founded in 2021 when it partnered with Merlin Properties to build data centers across Spain and Portugal. The company has data centers operational and in development across the US, including Missouri, Arizona, Texas, Georgia, Iowa, Ohio, and Illinois.
