Structure of new facility completed.CyrusOne has completed the structural framework of a data center in Chicago, Illinois.
The “topping out” ceremony, which celebrates the installation of the last piece of structure, was attended by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and Wood Dale Mayor Nunzio Pulice, among others.
CEO Eric Schwartz said: "This data center complex is designed to meet customer growth demands, and we are proud to celebrate this milestone with our team and partners.”
When completed, the campus will have two data centers spanning a total of 500,000 sq ft (46,500 sqm), offering an initial 18MW of capacity, scalable depending on demand.
The facility, which is being constructed by Clune Construction, is located west of Chicago in Wood Dale. Chicago is one of the largest data center markets in North America, but is currently insufficient to meet demand.
Other attendees of the ceremony included people from AG&E Structural Engenuity, Bowman Consulting Group, Corgan, KW Mission Critical Engineering, MGAC, Riley Construction Company, ERM, TLD Design Consulting, Pinnacle Engineering Group, Transwestern Development Group, and Ironworkers Local Union One.
Elsewhere in Illinois, CyrusOne has data centers operating in Aurora and Lombard, both on the outskirts of Chicago.
The company purchased its data center campus in Aurora in 2016, at the time a 428,000 sq ft (40,000 sqm) facility. The company added a second facility to the site in 2017 and a third facility last year.
In June 2024, CyrusOne filed to build two new data centers in Aurora with a total floorspace of more than 500,000 sq ft (46,500 sqm) on a 32-acre site, located across from Interstate 88 on Bilter Road in Kendall County. Construction began last October.
The Lombard data center offers 12MW of IT capacity over 60,000 sq ft (5,574 sqm).
CyrusOne has also filed for a nine-building data center campus in Yorkville to be developed over the next 10 to 20 years.
Based in the US, CyrusOne also has a presence in the UK, Italy, Germany, and Japan.
KKR and Global Infrastructure Partners acquired CyrusOne for $15bn in March 2022.
