Digital Edge Partners with First Gen to Power EDGE-Certified Data Center with Clean Hydroelectric Energy in Southeast Asia

Digital Edge has partnered with First Gen Corporation to supply its NARRA1 data center in Laguna Technopark with renewable energy sourced from hydroelectric facilities, marking a significant step toward sustainable digital infrastructure in Southeast Asia.

Under the power supply agreement, First Gen will deliver electricity directly to the NARRA1 facility, drawing from its Pantabangan-Masiway and Casecnan hydroelectric complexes in Nueva Ecija.

“We are proud to operate a world-class data center that meets the growing demand for digital infrastructure while upholding the highest standards of environmental responsibility,” said Vic Barrios, Country Manager of Digital Edge Philippines. “NARRA1 is already one of the most energy- and water-efficient data centers in the region. This partnership ensures it will now be powered by renewable hydroelectricity—further strengthening our commitment to sustainable operations.”

Developed jointly by Digital Edge and the Threadborne Group, NARRA1 is a 10-megawatt (MW) data center featuring 2,200 cabinets across 12 data halls, with 5,200 square meters of colocation space. It holds the distinction of being Southeast Asia’s first data center to earn EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) certification and the first in the Philippines to achieve LEED Gold certification.

“The need for data centers is growing and operating these requires large-scale, uninterrupted power with the lowest possible carbon emissions,” noted Carlo Vega, Chief Customer Engagement Officer of First Gen. “We look forward to supporting Digital Edge’s decarbonization journey with reliable, low-emission, and cost-competitive electricity, as well as energy optimization solutions.”

First Gen’s clean energy portfolio includes around 300 MW of hydroelectric power, 160 MW of wind and solar, and 1,200 MW of geothermal energy through its subsidiary Energy Development Corporation. The company also operates four natural gas-fired power plants with a total capacity of 2,017 MW, providing critical support to grid stability.

The collaboration aligns with both companies’ goals to accelerate the transition toward a greener, more energy-efficient digital economy in the Philippines and beyond.
